A relatively new name in Leeds United transfer news, Norwich City star Todd Cantwell, has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Elland Road outfit.
This update comes from transfer journalist Nicolo Schira, following reports of Leeds’ interest in Cantwell recently. The midfielder didn’t play for the Canaries at the weekend, furthering speculation he could be leaving Carrow Road.
As covered by 888Sport, The Athletic’s Phil Hay was sceptical a move would go through only a few days ago, but this latest news from Schira will give Leeds fans hope that Cantwell is on his way.
Schira, tweeting from his personal account, said, “#Leeds are in advanced talks for Todd #Cantwell. Offered €18M to #Norwich. The midfielder has agreed personal terms with #LUFC.”
Cantwell is a versatile midfielder. Marcelo Bielsa would appreciate how he can slot into any of the midfield roles and play on the flank if required.
With Michael Cuisance on his way, Leeds could be spending around £40 million on these two midfielders before the window shuts in a few days’ time.
Cagliari Rule Out Leeds Moves For Star Players
Leeds have been linked to a couple of Cagliari players this summer. Midfielder Nahitan Nandez and striker Giovanni Simeone have both been on the Whites’ radar, but Cagliari’s chairman has ruled out a transfer for either player.
Quoted in tuttomercatoweb, Tommaso Giulini said, “Both Nandez and Simeone are players that Leeds like, but these players cannot go out in the last few days because we would be weakened. It’s too late now, there wouldn’t be time to replace them.”
It’s rare that a high-profile club official will specifically mention a club which is pursuing its players. The suggestion from this could be that Nandez and Simeone want to move to Leeds, and this is Giulini’s method of telling them they’re not going anywhere.
Regardless, with the signings they have made, Leeds should not be bothered about missing out on Nandez and Simeone, particularly if they can get deals for Kerk, Cantwell and Cuisance over the line.
Winger Chase Confirmed
Football Insider reports Leeds have made a breakthrough on two signings worth £35 million. One of which is the aforementioned Cantwell. It’s claimed the clubs have continued to negotiate since Leeds made a £15 million bid last weekend.
Notably, Norwich are happy to sell their prized asset for the right price and Cantwell, like so many others this offseason, is excited by the prospect of moving to Leeds.
The report also states Leeds are hopeful of acquiring a winger before the deadline. Ryan Kent is no longer an option – Gyrano Kerk appears the most likely player to fill that berth.
