NFL Week 7 Predictions & Tips

  • The NFL’s last undefeated teams return from a week of rest to face menacing opponents.

  • The NFC North is the first division since 1970 to see all of its teams start 4-2 or better.

  • In Week 7, it’s only the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears on a bye week.

In Week 6, we saw the likes of the Texans, Buccaneers, Lions, and Bills showcase their playoff credentials with a win, while the Panthers, Raiders, Titans, Browns, and Patriots sunk further into the basement.

For UK fans, it’s another week of NFL festivities in London. In Week 7, it’ll be the team demolished by the Bears last week, the Jaguars, trying to save face against fellow 1-5 side New England at Wembley.

Here’s a look at the betting tips for some of the top Week 7 NFL games.

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings

A clash in the NFC North sees the divisional leaders with a perfect record coming off of their bye week host their closest competitors at 4-1, who just lost a standout defensive weapon.

The Minnesota Vikings are 5-0 and have put in some stellar performances on both sides of the ball. The surprise star of the show has, of course, been Sam Darnold, who ranks sixth in the NFL for his passer rating.

Provided that they don’t make another Herschel Walker-style trade to attempt to force a Super Bowl run, the Vikings look primed to be a real contender through to the end of the campaign.

For the Lions, the focus would have been on pressuring Darnold and cutting the line between him and Justin Jefferson, but that task was made monumentally more difficult when Aidan Hutchinson broke his leg last week.

The league’s sack leader at 7.5 was Detroit’s biggest hope of ousting Minnesota’s offence in this one as, even with Hutchinson, the defensive unit has been middling for its pressures and sacks.

On the flip side, the Minnesota Vikings are among the stingiest in the NFL against the pass and ground attack for yards per attempt. So, even after dismantling a flagging Cowboys D last week, the Lions look set for a tough time.

The Week 7 NFL tip for this game goes to Minnesota Vikings beating the -2.5 spread and Darnold getting over 1.5 passing touchdowns.

Houston Texans at Green Bay Packers

The Houston Texans just seem to be getting better and better each week. In Week 6, they did exactly what critics had been begging of the team all season: make the most of an advantage and steamroll to a big lead.

Against the New England Patriots and their debutant quarterback, the Texans were essentially out of sight just after half-time.

The game ended 41-21 after some spirited play later on from the Pats, but this was a demolition job. Plus, Joe Mixon’s back and firing.

Now, the Texans have their third major test of the season. So far, the huge clashes have ended 34-7 on the road to the Vikings in Week 7 and as a 23-20 triumph over the Bills in Week 5 at home.

Since Jordan Love returned in Week 4, he’s gone from strength to strength – as have the Packers overall. A late surge had him make the loss to the Vikings only be by two points, sporting an 83.0 QB rating.

Away to the Rams, his two passing touchdowns and 95.7 rating were pivotal in the 24-19 win. Finally, in Week 6, Love really put his foot down, throwing for 258 yards, four touchdowns, and a 119.5 rating in the 34-13 win over the Cardinals.

As it stands, Lambeau Field is expected to have clear skies, fair temperatures, and 11mph winds, but that could quickly shift. So, there may be more of an emphasis on kickers in this one, which isn’t a great sign for the Packers.

The Packers sit as the second-worst for field goal percentage at 70.6 per cent from 12 attempts, with some expecting the team to reconsider starting rookie kicker Brayden Narveson soon.

This is a very different Texans team to those that made the 1-1 record at Lambeau, and while their form would put them as favourites, this is a tough venue, so the tip goes to Houston at +2.5 on the spread and Mixon to beat the over for rushing yards.

Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns

Another divisional scrap is on the cards with these Week 7 NFL tips, and this time, we see the Cincinnati Bengals attempt to continue to claw their way back up the AFC North by beating the basement-dwelling Cleveland Browns.

Last week, Cincinnati’s defence left the field with only seven points against. It would be more worthy of praise had it not been against the very low-scoring Giants – who were also without their top offensive weapon, Malik Nabers.

Still, the stalwart showing from the Bengals without the ball helped to make up for the stuttering offence that yielded six punts and a fumble. Joe Burrow’s mighty rushing touchdown and one from Chase Brown made for a 17-7 win.

Arguably, the Bengals now meet a team that’s not even as good as the Giants. Last week, though, presumed NFC contenders, the Philadelphia Eagles, were held to a close 20-16 win at home by the Cleveland Browns.

The most obvious issue for the 1-5 team has been the offence, with Deshaun Watson now looking to be the beneficiary of one of the NFL’s worst-ever contracts. Yet, the Browns defence also hasn’t been as imperious as it was last season.

What are sticking out as factors in Cleveland’s favour here, though, are:

  • The unbeaten streak at home for the Browns against the Bengals over the last six years (6-0);

  • The Bengals losing eight of the last nine games against AFC North teams when favoured;

  • Cleveland being the most sack-happy team in the NFL.

On the latter, Burrows was under pressure early and often from an upstart Giants defensive front, going to the turf four times to make his sack total for the year 15. Cleveland averages over five sacks per game already.

With all of this in mind, the NFL Week 7 tips go to the unfavoured team with one of the best mascots in the NFL at least keeping it closer than they should with the Browns at +6.5 on the spread.

As the early season showed, this Zac Taylor team doesn’t like to shrug off unenviable records, so there will certainly be some backers of the Browns on the moneyline at a welcoming 3.40.
