The St Leger is the world’s oldest Classic and is the highlight of Doncaster’s four-day festival that dominates the UK Flat racing calendar in the month of September.
The race itself will take place on Saturday 12th September at 3.35pm GMT. With £700,000 of prize money on offer, the competition and the betting turnover will be very strong for this prestigious race.

Thursday 10th September – Ladies Day
Kicking off the 250th St Leger Festival in style, Ladies Day combines thrilling racing with fashion on the Town Moor.
Friday 11th September – Doncaster Cup Day
The Doncaster Cup is the oldest race currently run under the rules of horse racing and highlights Doncaster’s part in creating racing history.
The day also features the Leger Legends Stakes, where former champion jockeys return to the saddle for a thrilling contest down the home straight.
Saturday 12th September – St Leger Day
The most historic race and the main feature of the week is the St Leger.
As the St Leger celebrates its incredible 250th running we can expect world-class racing, a huge festival atmosphere and of course, celebrations worthy of 250 years of Doncaster’s most famous race.
Sunday 13th September – Sunday Funday
After three huge racing days, the Festival wraps up with a day for families. Sunday Funday combines exciting racing with entertainment for the younger racegoers in attendance.
A Look At The 2026 St Leger Betting
The ante-post betting market and contender list has shifted significantly following the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York, most notably with the initial ante-post favourite, Maltese Cross, now bypassing Doncaster to go for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe instead.

Enceladus and Joseph O’Brien are a leading threat to his father’s Ballydoyle dominance this year. He has seen steady market support as the St Leger approaches and after landing the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, he easily stepped up to Group company to score easily in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood. He is the horse in form for sure.
