Run over 1½ miles, this middle distance race is open to all fillies and mares aged three years and older.

Whilst fillies and mares can contest all the races that take place on British Champions Day, having their own category gives them the chance to stand out against their own sex without having to compete against the boys.

The Contenders

Currently leading our online betting market is the Andrew Balding filly Kalpana (9/4). The daughter of Study Of Man is having a productive season and the purple patch may not be at an end just yet.

Kalpana made a winning debut in January to her three-year-old season, taking the spoils by a neck in a Wolverhampton novice race.

The filly went on to score again in a Newmarket handicap race in April before finishing second in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes and then third in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

Winner of the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton Park in July by four and a half lengths, the Juddmonte filly was last seen racing in the Group 3 September Stakes at Kempton Park where she went off as the even-money favourite.

The market's faith was justified as she powered away from the field in the final furlong to win by four and three-quarter lengths. A repeat of that at Ascot would see her go very close indeed to bringing home the silverware.

Juddmonte are rich with talent in this division with their Bluestocking (4/1) coming in a strong second favourite in the betting.

If she wins the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe on Oct 6th I very much doubt whether connections will run her here too, but if she only places or finishes down the field in Paris she could well fulfil this Ascot assignment.

Her first Group win came in the Group 2 Middleton Stakes at York's Dante meeting in May 2024. Six weeks later in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at The Curragh, she ran down Emily Upjohn in the final furlong.

After coming second in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and fourth in the Juddmonte International, she headed to the Prix Vermeille Longchamp where she ran out the winner by three-quarters of a length.

The question for antepost punters now is which race do you back her in next?

I don’t think you will be alone now if you fancy the Sir Mark Prescott-trained filly Tiffany (10/1) to land the spoils here. There are plenty of other punters and pundits who think exactly the same thing.

Tiffany was last seen running just as fast as she can in Germany when landing the Group 2 T von Zastrow Stutenpreis at Baden-Baden.

She will now take the step up to Group One company at Cologne, where a bold showing in the 62nd Preis von Europa could tee her up for a crack at the Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot.

Priced up at 10/1 in our horse racing odds, she’ll be an each-way pick for many.
