Supporting West Ham doesn’t come with a compulsory membership of the Green Street Elite. The Hammers have a wide-ranging fan base, which is represented in its most famous supporters.
Sure, there are the typical Eastenders, but others have taken a liking to London’s claret-and-blue outfit.
While Dave Grohl, Matt Damon, and even Barack Obama have been speculated as Irons fans, there was very little evidence to suggest they had more than a passing interest, so this list is focused on true West Ham fans.
Keira Knightley
A former season ticket holder at Upton Park, Keira Knightley is as committed as any West Ham fan.
Knightley frequently gets up in the early hours to watch the Hammers in California and frequently mentions the club during interviews.
Danny Dyer
The father-in-law of West Ham’s star player, Danny Dyer is a lifelong Irons fan. He grew up just around the corner from Upton Park and is frequently spotted at the London Stadium.
Adored for his authenticity, Dyer spoke about the fanbase in an interview with the West Ham website, “There is something about West Ham and our fans. I remember when it was all standing as well - the South Bank, the North Bank - there was just something magical about Saturday afternoon."
Ray Winstone
Ray Winstone might be the only celebrity more publicly associated with West Ham than Dyer. Often speaking publicly about the club, Winstone was involved in promoting the 2009 home kit.
Russell Brand
Once a columnist at The Guardian, Russell Brand is often seen at West Ham’s home matches. He even famously interrupted an interview to kiss Sam Allardyce after a win.
The days of seeing Brand on TV coverage or hearing him on 5 Live are gone following serious allegations and some very controversial views.
Kriss Akabusi
Kriss Akabusi, a former sprinter and hurdler, became a fixture as a presenter across a range of programmes. He’s appeared on reality shows, quiz shows and done some voiceover work.
James Corden
For all the criticism people direct in James Corden’s direction, no one can question the legitimacy of his fandom.
Corden was a regular at West Ham games before relocating to the United States. He’s stuck with the club through thick and thin. Football mad, he’s worked with footballers on A League of Their Own, Sport Relief, and various other shows.
John Cleese
John Cleese’s West Ham fandom has been questioned in some corners, including in a Guardian column in the second half of the 2000s and by several Hammers fans.
Look, there’s very little public information about Cleese’s West Ham support. He hails from Weston-Super-Mare, but he wouldn’t be the first person to support a team from another part of the country.
Pixie Lott
Born in Kent before moving to Essex, Pixie Lott is a proud West Ham fan. She even delivered a half-time performance in a match between the Hammers and Everton in 2017.
