BURNLEY registered the quickest, fastest and earliest promotion from the EFL Championship to the Premier League in 2022/23.
The Clarets sealed matters with seven matches to go thereby satisfying Championship outright betting patterns.
Here are the main talking and statistics points from the jubilant night of Burnley’s promotion on Friday 7th April 2023…
Premier League football was cemented by winning 2-1 at Middlesbrough thanks to goals from Ashley Barnes (12 minutes) and Connor Roberts (66 mins).
The marksman for Boro was Chuba Akpom from the penalty spot three minutes after half-time. This match attracted huge football betting interest.
The Clarets’ line up at Middlesbrough was: Muric, Roberts, Beyer, Al-Dakhil, Maatsen, Cullen, Brownhill, Zaroury (sub: Vitinho 55 minutes), Gudmundsson (sub: Cork 77 mins), Tella, Barnes. Unused subs: Peacock-Farrell, Ekdal, Twine, Obafemi, Benson.
Burnley boss Vincent Kompany said after the final whistle: “It is Easter and we have seven games left to play. Yet we are already celebrating promotion. I have to say we didn’t expect it.
"Yes, we wanted to experience success at some point. But quicker is better sometimes as well! Ultimately we found a way.
"There are some logical rules of football that we all know. If you don’t have total squad cohesion at the start of a season then it certainly takes time. It is a 46 game campaign so you have the stress of those matches to help you improve quicker. Also you need to be objective and work hard.
"Promotion definitely wasn’t easy for us. However, my lads are celebrating like kids and that really is fun to see."
Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick magnanimously said: "Credit to Burnley first and foremost. I have to say well done to them. I’ve been into their changing room and seen the players and the staff. Because I think they deserve a big congratulations for what they have achieved."
Burnley chairman Alan Pace said: "It is all a complete surprise because we didn’t anticipate getting promotion like this. Vincent and I spoke during the summer and talked about everything at great length.
"I can reveal we actually gave ourselves two to three years to get promoted. That was the plan. So what you are seeing now is a lot of magic coming together!"
